Unveiled Walkman Phone By Sony Ericsson K715

The last Walkman phone Sony Ericsson has launched is the W715. And, as expected, this Walkman will be just a little better than its predecessors. Besides delivering your favorite music while you’re on the go, it will also offer you GPS support which means you will be able to make the most of the services available near you. Vodafone is going to pick the W715 and it will offer you turn-by-turn pedestrian or driving navigation with Vodafone Find&Go.

As for music, the W715 will come with the same features as the W980 has. You should expect crystal clear sound, the TrackID and SenseMe applications. The Shake Control function is also there which means you can change tracks with a twist of the wrist. And Vodafone Music is also going to be present.

You should expect the phone to arrive from Vodafone and other markets in Q1 but specific arrival dates and prices are going to be announced at a later date. The phone will come in those fancy named colors I like: Galactic Black and Luxury Silver. And here’s what we’re going to find inside of a W715 Walkman:

  1. GPS increases the precision of location-based services (LBS)
  2. Desktop direct search to online music – go online for the best songs and most popular videos on YouTube
  3. Wi-Fi and DLNA certified
  4. Shake Control – switch tracks and control the volume with the flick of a wrist
  5. SensMe™ – create playlists based on mood, rather than artists or genres
  6. Large 2.4-inch screen – view websites and emails with high clarity
  7. Auto rotate – switch from portrait to landscape with just a tilt of the phone
  8. Google Maps for Mobile
  9. 3.2 Megapixel camera – snap and share your favourite images via Bluetooth
  10. FM radio with TrackID™ – listen to the radio while on the move
  11. Option for 4GB memory card – store up to 3,900 songs
  12. GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
  13. UMTS/HSPA 900/2100

Exciting & Exciting Mobile Service Introduce By Yahoo

Mobile World Congress 2009 is on so it is only fitting that after MySpace announced the launch of a new mobile site, here comes Yahoo as well.

Yahoo announced, you guessed it right, the upcoming launch of its new Yahoo Mobile, an app developed for the Apple iPhone, and as an app developed for smartphones from Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola as well as those powered by Windows Mobile. Yahoo! Mobile initially will be available through a managed beta program, with general availability expected in Q2 2009.

We believe the new Yahoo Mobile will transform the way millions of mobile users around the world will interact with the Internet.

Users will be able to search editor-selected content, using new maps and tools, and consolidate a variety of content into one location. They will be able to access e-mail and social networking sites, as well as instant messaging, address books, and calendar tools.

The mobile Web and iPhone applications will provide search, buzz, and OneConnect, which will allow users to access e-mail from Yahoo, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, and AOL. It features Pulse for access to social networking sites, Yahoo Messenger, and Yahoo News, among other features.

The smartphone versions include all the same functionality plus Yahoo’s OneSearch with Voice, which will allow users to state what they’re looking for. It will also feature widgets and Opera Mini 4.2 for mobile browsing.

Sony Ericsson Introduces “Idou” 12.1 Megapixel Camera Phone

With the official start of the Mobile World Congress 2009 only hours away, Sony Ericsson announced its Idou smartphone at a press event in Barcelona. We sat down with a few Sony Ericsson execs to talk about the new smartphone, which will be the first device from Sony Ericsson to run on the new platform. The open-source Symbian Foundation OS is being built upon Nokia’s S60 user interface and the Symbian OS, and will look very much like the current Nokia S60 5th Edition that runs on the Nokia 5800 XpressMedia, if our sources are to believed.

Since the Idou is a prototype, and doesn’t even have an official name yet, we were unable to get video of the smartphone actually powered up. But we did get a chance to play around with the hardware enough to at least be able to imagine what is coming.

For being such early hardware, the Idou felt solidly built. We could see the 12.1 megapixel camera’s autofocus lens and Xenon flash, and the signage on the device told us that it will feature DLNA compatible WiFi and GPS as well. The display measures 3.5 inches across and is in a wide screen format, though we don’t know what the actual pixel resolution will be.

In terms of the look and feel of the user interface, we can expect it to be fairly true to the stock Symbian Foundation UI, which is expected to look much like S60 5th Edition. Sony Ericsson reps did say that we should expect to see the same kind of Sony Ericsson user experience type apps on the Idou as we see on Sony Ericsson’s feature phones and its Xperia X1, though there was no mention specifically of the Xperia panels, which we are not expecting.

We have been told that the full announcement for the Idou, which will contain its final name, full specs, and expected availability date, will come to us by early Summer of 2009. We’re looking forward to it. For now, enjoy the photos and the HD video we shot of the device.

SkyFire Beta Is Now Available For Mobile Handsets

With all the hype surrounding the iPhone and Google Android, users may have forgotten about one of the best mobile browsers available for Windows Mobile and Symbian owners. We’re talking about Skyfire, the award winning mobile browser that we can’t get enough of! Skyfire gives mobile users one of the best web browsing experiences to-date. It’s also one of our picks for must have windows mobile applications. Today, Skyfire users can get a great update that breathes new life into this mobile browser. Here’s a look at what’s new with Skyfire.

If you’ve been waiting a lifetime to get off Skyfire’s waiting list, you don’t have to wait any longer. With the release of version 0.8 of Skyfire, the application is now available to all Windows Mobile users with compatible devices. So what’s new with the app itself?

  • New Super Bar that combines search and URL entry into one bar
  • Skyfire can now be set as the default browser
  • New search bar on the Homescreen
  • New start page redesign
  • Faster start-up and page loading times
  • Share a link via SMS
  • Invite friends to download Skyfire via SMS
  • Save an image
  • Download files

One of the most popular capabilities that Skyfire has over Safari on the iPhone is the ability to play flash videos. This means you can browse popular video sites such as Youtube and Vimeo, or music sites such as Last.FM and Imeem, to play media clips on the go. Playback speed and quality has noticeably improved in the latest Skyfire update. With videos, the mobile browser’s playback quality would suffer significantly when zooming into a video while it was playing. In our tests of the latest update, this bug seems to have been fixed and playback quality stayed the same when zooming in and out.

What we think will be a really popular new feature is Skyfire’s ability to download files. You may be thinking that you can’t download anything outside of a Word or PDF file. Well, you’re wrong. We were able to download .mp3 files, Gmail attachments, .CAB files and more to our Windows Mobile handset. Skyfire lets you choose where to save a file and presents you with a progress view of your download. However, you won’t be able to do anything else while the file is downloading.

We encountered a major bug that we feel users of Skyfire should be aware of. Before the update, if Skyfire lost service we would simply have to quit the application and restart it. In this update, Skyfire attempts to reconnect instead of dropping the connection completely. However, we never got the browser to reconnect. Instead, a continuous loop of reconnection attempts occured and we eventually had to exit the browser and restart it.

Another big problem with Skyfire is that there is still no option to import your Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) bookmarks. We deemed this to be a high-priority feature in our initial review of Skyfire. For new users, this will be very important and could be a deal breaker for those who live in their mobile browsers and have one too many bookmarks.

Skyfire users will not be disappointed with the latest update. In fact, we feel the small changes that have been made will make the browsing experience with Skyfire even better! Symbian users can expect an update very soon, though Blackberry and Palm devices still aren’t supported by Skyfire.

    iMafia….. Social Game For iPhone

With their reliance on social networks and their ‘leftfield’ monetisation methods, the Mob would have felt right at home in the 21st Century world of Web 2.0..

Now PlayMesh is seeking to straddle the mobster/mobile 2.0 divide with iMafia, an innovative gangster game.

According to Venture Beat, iMafia takes the basic social gameplay of online titles like Mob Wars, leverages social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and adds a clever twist to enable PlayMesh to profit from a game given away for free on the App store.

It works like this: PlayMesh has produced several other iPhone games, such as Chess Puzzles, iType and Speed Shapes. Originally free, these are now being replaced by premium versions.

iMafia players who buy and play the developer’s other games can earn points in them to spend in the gangster game.

PlayMesh says it will open up its system to other developers, too, which could potentially create a shadow network of virtual cross-game payments in the iPhone ecosystem.

Quite what the Godfather, Apple, would make of that is an open question. The convoluted procedure is necessitated because Apple protects its 30 per cent cut by banning overt virtual goods models, in order to stop developers creating free apps and selling upgrades outside of the App store for 100 per cent of the profits.

    First 3G HSDPA Wrist Phone | LG-GD910

LG representative showed us the company’s new GD910 touchscreen watch phone. Sporting features that even Dick Tracy and James Bond never had access to, the new GD910 tries to offer nearly full featured phone functionality inside a very compact wrist watch form factor.

A swipe gesture based touchscreen user interface allows users to move from screen to screen easily, and cool tech like HSDPA data, speech to text/text to speech, and a music player round out the relatively complete feature set. The GD910 supports both regular Bluetooth headsets as well as stereo Bluetooth headphones, and can even manage 3G video calls. The GD910’s touchscreen display measures 1.43" across the diagonal, and the entire device weighs only 85g.

Because of the demo model’s pre-production status, we were unable to show you some of the navigation and transition screen effects in the video below, but we can tell you that everything seemed to work quite speedily and smoothly.

LG has yet to reveal complete pricing and availability information for the GD910, but the company did hint that the device would likely show up in European markets first.
