Nokia recently lunched update to the Maemo operating system for its Internet Tablet lineup. OS2008 is now available for both the N800 and N810 Internet Tablets, and it brings several improvements. The menus are now much more finger-friendly, and the eye-candy has been improved with transparency on the main screen.Bundled applications have also received updates with the new OS revision. Gizmo Project, a SIP-based VOIP client, now supports video-calling to other Tablets as well as PC’s running the latest version of the software. Also included is the new Maps software, which allows the Tablet to be used as a GPS navigation device. The N800, which lacks the new N810’s built-in GPS module, can use a Bluetooth-capable GPS receiver with the mapping software.
Palm, Inc. warned investors that would soon announce a larger financial loss last quarter than it had previously thought. Today, the company made that prediction official.During its most recent financial quarter, Palm lost $9.6 million, or 9 cents per diluted common share, as compared to a $12.7 million profit in year-over-year quarter.The company’s revenue during the quarter — which ended November 30 – was $349.6 million. Its revenue during the same three months of last year was $392.9 million.This is Palm’s second unprofitable quarter in a row, after several years of consistent profitability.
O2 has tested the first pilot of NFC (Near Field Communications) technology on mobile phones in united kingdom. The trial of the O2 Wallet paves the way for the mass market use of mobile phones to pay for purchases, access events or even be used as Oyster cards for travel around London, simply by touching the phone to a reader.Research shows that people are more likely to return home if they leave their phone behind than their wallet said by O2 UK.The trial, which will involve over 500 people invited from the O2 customer base, takes place across selected sites throughout London and begins on 28th November 2007 running for six months.
